Slack Water
That fleeting pause when the tide turns at low ebb — the rocks, pebbles, and seaweed lie exposed, glistening in the quiet air. The water rests, neither advancing nor retreating, just gently lapping against the shore or the side of a boat. Rock pools begin to form, holding fragments of the sea as it slips away.
In this stillness, there is both calm and expectancy — a breath held between what has passed and what is yet to come. Life gathers quietly in the pools and crevices, waiting for the tide’s return. It is a moment of balance, of fragile beauty, where endings and beginnings meet.
An original mixed media painting using collage, acrylic paint, and acrylic markers.
The artwork is built up using many different layers to create texture and interest. A process which develops and changes over several sessions, until I'm completely happy with the end result.
